Pigeon Spike comes in many different sizes and configurations and is available in plastic or stainless steel. All spike products fall under the heading ‘ledge product’ as they were actually designed to protect a ledge from roosting pigeons. Pigeon spike is simply a physical deterrent and if installed correctly prohibits pigeons from physically being able to access the ledge(s). This 5″ wide spike will protect a ledge that is up to 6.5″ wide – if installed correctly. Follow the directions found in the box for the best results.
John’s Tip: Make sure the surface is clean and free of dust, dirt and pigeon poop. Use screws or a good silicone glue so it won’t dry out and become brittle in 6 months. The strips of pigeon spike have screw holes and, if not using screws, make sure the glue mushrooms up through those holes for a good strong hold. Spike will not usually be effective on larger surfaces such as a roof as the pigeons can – and probably will – stand right next to them. To prevent injury to people and damage to the product, don’t install spike in areas accessible to humans. Spike is not a good choice to control smaller birds. As always – Happy Hunting!
